What other workout would be better to wrap up 2011 then...

Thrusters

What was your best RFM memory from 2011? Let's hear 'em! Post to comments.

  1. I'll get things started. So many to choose from...let's just start with the coaches:

    - Kristi hitting a 100# snatch at the Upcountry Fitness Competition
    - Oran dancing to Michael Jackson in a tutu hat and then dropping down into the splits
    - Kehau representing RFM so well and winning the Lahaina CrossFit Winter Strength Challenge

More to come. I could write a whole blog post on just Rod moments alone!

  2. - My first day at RFM ended with myself doing a "real" WOD with the class. 21-15-9 wall ball burpees and sit-ups. Though barely being able to breathe I loved it and my Crossfit Journey had begun.

-Ive trained along side my mom for over 10 years, mostly at Golds Gym. This year marked the first time Ive ever trained along side not only Craig but Rikki as well. The "Frikkin Pink Shoes" was born.

-My own personal achievements. I started 2011 at 218# with a previous high of 225#. After changing my diet and joining the gym I went down to 194#. Im excited to see what 2012 has in store.

-My fondest memory would be our community of members. Thank you coaches for the countless hours of programing and time spent with us in the gym. And a huge mahalo goes out to Robert and Kristi who lead our gym with such humility and Aloha. This ones for you.

1 Peter 5:2 Be shepherds of God’s flock that is under your care, watching over them—not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not pursuing dishonest gain, but eager to serve; 3 not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock. 4 And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that will never fade away.....AMEN!!!

  3. I could write for days to respond.

    • Our trip to LA for the CF Games; Kristi and I getting 100 new inside jokes (GPS taking us to Home Depot not Home Depot Center) and watching Mary give it every last ounce of hard work she's built up for years.
    • Val and I doing the "dragon dance" with her kimono at the Halloween party. Kats' costume made my lifetime memory book -- not just 2011.
    • Robert yelling at Rod from atop the stairs during that burpee over barbell WOD.
    • Limbo and Sole Claus.
    • Oran's karaoke at my birthday; thanks for taking the mic right after I tried to sing "Zombies" by the Cranberries ;)
    • My best friend Frank returning to the gym with a new perspective about training.
    • My best memories come from the everyday stuff: Seeing Alaina PR on a backsquat when she complained about lifting heavy; watching Patty get better and better; running with Bob and Val and talking story along the way; cheering for 6 p.m. class even though I'm supposed to go home after my 5 p.m. is over; talking with Kristi about life; confiding in Carrol; teasing Rod; cheering for Lori and Kats and lots more.

    • Lastly -- a memory that is not new: Check out the integrity in Robert and Kristi's form. Any WOD that I've ever seen them do, in my two-plus years training with them, has always been completely legit. I have never seen them waver on any movements for the sake of a better time. What amazing leadership. Thanks for shaping our gym from humility, love, sacrifice and above all -- sound form, safety and functionality.

  4. Oh, I almost forgot:
I got my cert in January 2011 and started coaching in February. This year has been an interesting, and challenging, transition from athlete to coach. Looking back, I feel strangely blessed and fulfilled this year even though I don't have a ton of "PRs" to show for it. And I owe each RFM member for giving me that joy, one that seems to last longer than hitting a crazy lift or getting a sick time on a WOD. Thank you!

  5. OMG -- another one! (See you won't be able to stop me). This year marked the year we got the Foreman / Kaia ohana, a core part of our community. They brought in so many others, all of whom we love. And they host some amazing parties, which make our community even stronger! See? If only Ikaika listened to me when I told him about CF years ago...;) Moral of the story: Listen to Kehau.
